Where it all began…

I can recall a deep yearning for creating little pockets that felt like “home” since I was a little girl. I remember the textures of my childhood on the farm so vividly- the rough-hewn wall boards in the barn I spent countless hours playing in, rusty bridle bits, magnolia trees, penny tile kitchen countertops, beautifully stained 12” baseboards, a pastel ditsy floral wallpaper in the Dining Room that my father also got to experience when he was a child…the list goes on. These textures, although seemingly a bit worn and in need of an update, are so integral to everything that I am today. Ironically, I spent most of my life running from that place and those things, and it wasn’t until I came back home to myself that I was able to truly appreciate their significance.

When I decided to take a leap of faith and leave my job in pediatric nursing to pursue design full-time in 2019, I was unexpectedly met with an immense amount of guilt. How could I possibly trade bedside manner for bedside tables? I then came to realize that creating inspiring, yet grounding living spaces for my clients is how I truly am meant to bring peace to people’s lives. As an empath, I’ve always found myself thinking and feeling deeply about most things in life- the concept of “home” is no exception to that. Home holds us when we are our most vulnerable selves. It holds us during the mundane moments, life’s most exciting victories and everything in between. It’s where we begin and end each day, and it’s a beautiful thing when the fibers of our lives are thoughtfully woven throughout. Home is exactly what we wish to make it. We get to pick the parts of our ourselves that we love most and celebrate them by allowing our walls to tell that story.

Each Sonder Dwellings space is equally as refined as it is approachable. Heavily inspired by nature, you will notice our recurring use of organic pattern play, patina’d living finishes and timeless materials. We find that each of these layers help to create a comforting sense of nostalgia that allows us to breathe a little easier. In a world full of “dupes” and fast design, our goal is to encourage clients to stay curious, reflect and dig a little deeper.

Designing homes has been the most humbling, yet rewarding experience of my life and I am ecstatic to bring Sonder Dwellings into the world. It’s an honor to help you tell your story.
